Thermal Mass Velocity Flow Meter

Heat lost to the gas becomes the flow rate.

The thermal mass flow meter operates on the principle of thermal dispersion — gases conduct heat differently than other substances. The meter carries two temperature sensors: a heated sensor and a reference sensor, maintaining a constant temperature difference between them. As gas flows through the meter it cools the heated sensor, and the flow rate is directly proportional to the amount of cooling. Measuring the temperature difference between the two sensors gives the gas flow rate directly.

Primarily used for measuring the flow of gases — air, natural gas, nitrogen and other process gases — without needing recalibration for composition changes. Common in chemical processing, HVAC systems and environmental monitoring.
